Hanging Porch Swings

If you have a porch, whether in the front or back part of your house, it would be ideal to set up a swing so you can enjoy more time outdoors. Assemble a hanging porch swing and enjoy its relaxing sway and outstanding look. But for us to appreciate our hanging porch swing, we must know how to install it properly to avoid any accidents.

First consider the space that you have so the swing to move freely.  For added safety, use galvanized or stainless steel chain or marine-grade braided nylon or polyester rope, and eye-bolts or S-hooks with 4-6 inch shafts. S-hooks are easier to remove so you can store your swing during winter.

Never hang your swing from the roofing material itself. Hang the swing from the roof joist by cutting a portion of the roofing material if it is not exposed. Drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the shaft of the eye-ring or S-ring. Use four chains to hang your swing -- two chains from each hook, one to the front of the swing and one to the back. Lastly, check your swings every spring and change any rusted chain or bolts.
